At Ravenna you may come across mosaics when least expecting to, perhaps while exploring in
the historic city centre for very different reasons. Something of this kind happened
recently in Ravenna with the rediscovery of over 1,200 square metres of floors
that were lying at a depth of over four metres below street level. These Roman, Theodoric
and Byzantine mosaics are due to be displayed on the site where they were found. They
depict human figures, symbolic scenes and geometric motifs.... |
